A quick and easy recipe for crispy air fryer bang bang shrimp coated in a light, crunchy crust and tossed in a spicy sweet chili mayo. Perfect for busy nights or casual get-togethers.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound large raw shrimp, peeled and deveined, tails on or off
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (60g)
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch (30g)
  • 2 large eggs, beaten, room temperature
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • Neutral oil cooking spray (avocado or canola)
  • For the Spicy Sweet Chili Mayo:
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise (120ml)
  • 3 tbsp sweet chili sauce
  • 1 tsp sriracha (optional)
  • 1 tsp lime juice, freshly squeezed
  • 1/2 tsp honey
  • Optional garnishes: thinly sliced green onions, fresh cilantro, sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Rinse the shrimp and pat dry thoroughly with paper towels.
  2. In a shallow bowl, combine flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Stir well.
  3. In another bowl, beat the eggs until smooth.
  4. Dip each shrimp into the beaten eggs, letting excess drip off, then dredge in the flour mixture. Press lightly to ensure coating sticks. Place coated shrimp on a plate or baking sheet.
  5. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 3-5 minutes.
  6. Spray the air fryer basket lightly with cooking spray. Arrange shrimp in a single layer without overcrowding; cook in batches if needed. Spray shrimp tops lightly with cooking spray.
  7. Air fry shrimp for 5-6 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crispy.
  8. While shrimp cooks, whisk together mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, sriracha, lime juice, and honey in a small bowl. Adjust heat or sweetness to taste.
  9. Toss cooked shrimp gently with half of the spicy sweet chili mayo until coated. Serve with extra sauce on the side and garnish as desired.

Notes

Dry shrimp thoroughly before coating for best crispiness. Do not overcrowd air fryer basket; cook in batches if needed. Adjust sriracha for desired heat level. For gluten-free, substitute flour with almond or gluten-free flour blend. For low-carb, substitute flour and cornstarch with crushed pork rinds or coconut flour. Leftovers can be reheated in air fryer at 350°F for 3-4 minutes to restore crispiness.
