  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 package store-bought pie crust (usually two crusts)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the filling: In a medium bowl, toss together the peeled and diced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, melted butter, and flour. Mix until the apples are evenly coated. This takes about 5 minutes.
  2. Cook the filling: Transfer the apple mixture to a small skillet over medium heat. Cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring often, until the apples soften slightly and the mixture thickens. Remove from heat and let cool completely.
  3. Roll out the crust: On a lightly floured surface, unroll your pie crusts. If thick, gently roll them out to about 1/8 inch thickness. Use a 4-inch round cutter or cup to cut circles from the dough.
  4. Fill the hand pies: Place about 1-2 tablespoons of the cooled apple filling in the center of each dough circle. Do not overfill.
  5. Seal the edges: Brush the edges of the dough with a little water, fold over to create a half-moon shape, and press the edges with a fork to seal tightly.
  6. Apply egg wash: Brush the tops of each hand pie with the beaten egg.
  7. Air fry: Preheat air fryer to 350°F. Place pies in a single layer with space between each. Cook for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crispy.
