Instructions

  1. Place 1 cup (227g) of unsalted butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Stir frequently as the butter melts, foams, and then begins to brown. Remove from heat immediately once browned and pour into a heatproof bowl. Let cool for 10 minutes.
  2. Add 3/4 cup granulated sugar and 3/4 cup packed brown sugar to the browned butter. Whisk until combined and smooth.
  3. Crack in 1 large egg (room temperature) and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Stir until fully incorporated.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together 2 1/4 cups (280g) all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon baking soda, and 1/2 teaspoon salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
  6. Fold in 1 1/2 cups (270g) semi-sweet chocolate chips evenly.
  7. Optional: Cover the dough and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes for thicker cookies.
  8. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  9. Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, drop dough balls about 2 inches apart. Lightly press down to flatten slightly.
