A soft, tender chocolate chip cookie recipe born from a happy accident, delivering melt-in-your-mouth softness with chewy edges and rich chocolate flavor. Easy to make with pantry staples and perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/4 cups (280g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (227g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup (150g) granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup (165g) packed light brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 cups (340g) semisweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone mats.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a medium bowl, beat the softened butter with granulated sugar and brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 3 to 4 minutes with an electric mixer.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed or folding gently until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed.
  7. Cover the dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes (optional but recommended).
  8. Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, drop dough onto prepared baking sheets about 2 inches apart.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until edges are golden but centers still look soft.
  10. Let cookies rest on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Chilling the dough for at least 30 minutes helps prevent spreading and enhances flavor. Pull cookies out when edges are set but centers still look slightly soft to keep them tender. Use butter softened to room temperature but not melted for best texture. Avoid overmixing after adding flour to prevent toughness. Rotate pans halfway through baking if your oven has hot spots.
