A brightly colored, gooey poke cake topped with spooky decorations, perfect for Halloween parties and family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box of vanilla or white cake mix
  • Water, oil, and eggs (as per box instructions)
  • 1 package (3.4 oz) instant pudding mix (green or purple for Halloween vibes)
  • 2 cups milk (whole milk or 2% for creaminess)
  • 1 tub of whipped topping or buttercream frosting
  • Black food coloring (optional, for a spooky touch)
  • Candy eyeballs
  • Halloween sprinkles
  • Gummy worms or candy monsters

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to the temperature specified on the cake mix box. Grease your 9×13-inch baking pan and set aside.
  2. Prepare the cake mix according to the package instructions. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for the recommended time on the box, usually around 25-30 minutes.
  3. Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool for about 10-15 minutes. You want it to be warm but not hot (so the pudding absorbs nicely).
  4. Using a wooden spoon handle or chopstick, poke holes all over the surface of the cake. Space them out evenly to ensure the filling gets distributed throughout.
  5. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the pudding mix and milk until smooth. Pour the pudding mixture over the cake, focusing on filling the holes. Spread evenly with an offset spatula or the back of a spoon.
  6. Cover the cake and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to allow the pudding to set and infuse the cake.
  7. Once the cake is chilled, mix black food coloring into the whipped topping or frosting until you achieve the desired spooky hue. Spread the frosting evenly over the cake.
  8. Decorate with candy eyeballs, Halloween sprinkles, gummy worms, or any spooky candies you like. Get creative—it’s Halloween, after all!
  9. Slice and serve this spooky masterpiece to your party guests. Watch their faces light up as they take their first bite!
