Soft, chewy cookies with bursts of tart cherry and ribbons of decadent chocolate, perfect for gifting, family gatherings, or a cozy weekend treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup dried cherries, roughly chopped
  • 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  6. Gently fold in the chopped cherries and mini chocolate chips using a rubber spatula.
  7. Scoop tablespoon-sized balls of dough and place them on the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  8. Use a toothpick or skewer to create swirls in the dough for a marbled effect.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are set but the centers are still soft. Don’t overbake—they’ll firm up as they cool.
  10. Let the cookies rest on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack.

Notes

[‘If the dough feels too sticky, refrigerate it for 20-30 minutes before shaping the cookies.’, ‘Don’t overmix the dough to avoid tough cookies.’, ‘Experiment with the swirl patterns for a unique look.’]
