A cozy and fresh oatmeal bowl combining sweet strawberries, ripe bananas, and warm cinnamon, perfect for a loving Valentine’s Day breakfast or any comforting morning.

  • 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats (90 g)
  • 1 1/2 cups water or milk of choice (350 ml) – dairy or plant-based
  • 1 medium ripe banana, mashed
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, sliced (150 g)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup or honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Measure your oats and liquid. Pour 1 cup (90 g) old-fashioned rolled oats into a medium saucepan, then add 1 1/2 cups (350 ml) water or milk of choice.
  2. Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle boil, stirring occasionally for about 3–4 minutes.
  3. Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer, stirring frequently for 5–7 minutes until oats absorb most of the liquid and become tender but still hold some texture.
  4. Peel and mash 1 medium ripe banana in a small bowl until smooth with a few lumps left for texture.
  5. When the oats are almost done, add the mashed banana, 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Stir well and cook for another minute.
  6. Remove the pot from heat and stir in 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup (or honey) and 1 tablespoon chia seeds if using.
  7. Slice 1 cup (150 g) fresh strawberries thinly and set aside for topping.
  8. Spoon the warm oatmeal into bowls, top generously with sliced strawberries, and add a few extra banana slices if desired. Drizzle extra maple syrup if preferred.

Notes

Use old-fashioned rolled oats for best creamy texture. Add mashed banana at the end to avoid gummy oats. Stir often during simmering to prevent sticking. Adjust sweetness with maple syrup or honey. For a vegan version, use maple syrup and plant-based milk. Can substitute strawberries with other berries seasonally. Add nut butter or nuts for extra protein and richness.
