These football-shaped brownie bites are fudgy, adorable, and perfect for game day or parties. Made with simple pantry ingredients and decorated with sweet vanilla icing, they’re a crowd-pleasing treat that’s easy to make and fun for kids.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • Optional: 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips
  • For Decorating:
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1–2 teaspoons milk (dairy or nondairy, as needed)
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional: Brown gel food coloring
  • Piping bag or zip-top bag for decorating

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C). Line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang. Lightly grease the paper and sides.
  2. In a large microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter. Let cool for 2–3 minutes.
  3. Add granulated sugar to the melted butter and whisk until smooth and glossy (1–2 minutes). Add eggs and vanilla extract. Whisk until pale and slightly thick, about 2 more minutes.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder. (If using chocolate chips, add them now.)
  5. Add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture. Fold together with a spatula just until no dry flour remains. Do not overmix.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top. Bake for 18–22 minutes, or until the top is shiny and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  7. Remove from oven and place pan on a wire rack. Let brownies cool completely, at least 30 minutes.
  8. Lift cooled brownies from the pan using the parchment overhang. Use a 2-inch round cookie cutter to cut out circles. Gently pinch each side of the circle to create football points. (Or cut rectangles and trim corners into points.)
  9. In a small bowl, mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until you have a thick but pipeable icing. Add more milk a few drops at a time if needed.
  10. Scoop icing into a piping bag or zip-top bag. Snip a tiny corner and pipe one long line and three short cross lines onto each brownie to mimic football laces.
  11. Allow icing to set for about 20 minutes before serving or packing. Chill in the fridge to speed up if needed.

Notes

For gluten-free, use a 1:1 gluten-free flour blend. For dairy-free, substitute vegan margarine and plant-based milk. Don’t overbake for fudgy texture. Let brownies cool fully before shaping. Brownie scraps are great over ice cream or in trifles. Decorate just before serving for best appearance.
