Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups (375 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 cup (240 ml) warm milk (around 110°F or 43°C)
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley (optional)
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Create a well in the center.
  3. Pour the frothy yeast mixture into the well, along with the melted butter and egg. Mix until the dough starts to come together.
  4. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead it for about 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Sprinkle a little more flour if the dough feels sticky.
  5. Place the dough into a greased bowl, cover it with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm spot for 1-2 hours, or until it doubles in size.
  6. Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball, tucking the edges underneath to create a smooth surface.
  7. Line a baking tray with parchment paper and arrange the dough balls about 1 inch apart. Cover with the kitchen towel and let them rise again for 30-45 minutes.
  8. While the rolls are rising, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  9. In a small bowl, mix together the melted butter, minced garlic, parsley, and a pinch of salt to make the garlic butter glaze.
  10. Brush the rolls generously with the garlic butter glaze before baking.
  11. Bake the rolls for 18-22 minutes, or until they’re golden brown on top.
  12. Remove the rolls from the oven and brush them with any remaining garlic butter. Let them cool slightly before serving warm.

Notes

Ensure the milk is warm but not hot to activate the yeast properly. Be patient during the rising stages and avoid over-flouring the dough to maintain its soft texture.
