A comforting and effortless breakfast casserole combining cinnamon rolls and custardy French toast, prepared overnight for a perfect morning treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 large store-bought cinnamon rolls with icing packet included
  • 6 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 cups whole milk or 2% milk (almond or oat milk for dairy-free option)
  • ½ cup heavy cream (can substitute with extra milk)
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter (for brushing before baking)
  • Powdered sugar or extra icing for topping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
  2. Cut each cinnamon roll into quarters and arrange evenly in the baking dish.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until fully combined and slightly frothy.
  4. Pour the custard mixture evenly over the cinnamon roll pieces, pressing gently to ensure absorption without drowning them.
  5. Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil or plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 6 hours or overnight.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Remove the casserole from the fridge.
  7. Brush the top of the casserole evenly with melted butter.
  8. Cover loosely with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  9. Remove the foil and bake an additional 15-20 minutes until the top is golden brown and custard is set but moist.
  10. Let the casserole cool for 10 minutes before serving.
  11. Optionally, drizzle with the included icing or dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

Use room temperature eggs and milk for best custard texture. Do not over-soak the cinnamon rolls; press gently to absorb custard without drowning. Cover the dish while baking initially to lock in moisture. Tent with foil if the top browns too quickly. Customize cinnamon level or add nuts/fruits for variation. Overnight soak is recommended but 2-3 hours can work in a pinch.
