A quick and elegant appetizer featuring a creamy brie wheel baked with sweet fig jam, crunchy toasted walnuts, and a drizzle of honey. Perfect for entertaining or a cozy night in.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (8 oz / 225 g) wheel of brie cheese, rind on
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) fig jam
  • 1/3 cup (40 g) walnuts, chopped and toasted
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) honey
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme (optional)
  • Pinch of fresh cracked black pepper (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Toast chopped walnuts in a dry skillet over medium heat for 3-4 minutes, stirring often until fragrant and lightly golden. Set aside to cool.
  3. Place the brie in your oven-safe baking dish or small cast-iron skillet. If the brie is too tall, trim a little off the bottom rind so it sits flat.
  4. Spread the fig jam evenly over the top of the brie, leaving a bit of the rind showing around the edges.
  5. Scatter the toasted walnuts on top of the fig jam.
  6. Mix honey and fresh thyme in a small bowl, then drizzle this mixture over the walnuts and jam. Add a pinch of cracked black pepper if desired.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes until the brie is soft and melty but not oozing excessively.
  8. Remove from oven and let rest for 5 minutes to firm up slightly.
  9. Serve warm, slicing into wedges and pairing with crusty bread, crackers, or fresh fruit slices.

Notes

Do not overbake the brie to avoid it becoming a puddle. Toast walnuts carefully to prevent burning. Let brie come to room temperature before baking for even melting. Line baking dish with parchment paper for easier cleanup. Maple syrup can be used instead of honey for a dairy-free version. Serve with crusty bread, crackers, or fresh fruit.
