A quick and easy 30-minute dinner featuring crispy chicken coated in a sticky, savory sesame glaze paired with tender-crisp broccoli. Perfect for busy weeknights and family meals.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 2 cups broccoli florets, washed and trimmed
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for broccoli)
  • 3 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon toasted sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 1 tablespoon water (for thickening sauce)
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Pat the chicken pieces dry with paper towels. In a medium bowl, toss chicken with salt, pepper, and cornstarch until lightly coated. Let sit for 5 minutes.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Stir-fry broccoli florets for 3–4 minutes until bright green and tender-crisp. Remove and set aside.
  3. Add 2 tablespoons vegetable oil to the skillet. Fry chicken pieces in a single layer in batches for 3–4 minutes per side until golden and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, toasted sesame oil, garlic, ginger, and 1 tablespoon water.
  5. Mix 1 teaspoon cornstarch with 1 tablespoon water until smooth. Pour sauce mixture into skillet over medium heat. Slowly add cornstarch slurry while stirring constantly. Cook 2–3 minutes until thick and glossy.
  6. Return chicken and broccoli to skillet. Toss gently to coat with sauce. Cook 1–2 minutes to meld flavors.
  7. Sprinkle toasted sesame seeds over the top and stir once more. Serve immediately over steamed rice or noodles.

Notes

Do not overcrowd the pan when frying chicken to maintain crispiness. Pat chicken dry before coating. Toast sesame seeds before garnishing for extra flavor. Stir sauce constantly when thickening to avoid lumps. If sauce is too thick, add water; if too thin, cook longer. For gluten-free, use tamari or coconut aminos and arrowroot powder instead of cornstarch. For vegetarian, substitute chicken with firm tofu.
