Creamy Shamrock Shake Recipe: Easy Homemade Mint Ice Cream Treat

creamy shamrock shake - featured image

This creamy shamrock shake is a festive, homemade treat featuring real mint ice cream, cold milk, and a hint of vanilla. It’s quick to make, irresistibly smooth, and perfect for St. Patrick’s Day or any time you crave a refreshing, minty dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups mint chocolate chip ice cream (about 300g), slightly softened
  • 1 cup whole milk (240ml), cold
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 23 drops green food coloring (optional)
  • Whipped cream, for topping
  • 23 maraschino cherries, for garnish (optional)
  • Chocolate shavings or sprinkles, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Remove mint ice cream from the freezer and let it sit at room temperature for 3-5 minutes until just soft enough to scoop.
  2. Pour cold whole milk into a measuring cup.
  3. Scoop the softened mint ice cream into your blender. Add milk, vanilla extract, and green food coloring (if using).
  4. Blend on high for 30-45 seconds until creamy and fully combined. The mixture should be thick but pourable.
  5. Check consistency with a spoon; if too thick, add a splash of milk. If too thin, add more ice cream and blend again.
  6. Pour the shake into two tall glasses (about 12oz each).
  7. Top with whipped cream, maraschino cherry, and chocolate shavings or sprinkles as desired.
  8. Serve immediately with a straw.

Notes

For a vegan version, use dairy-free mint ice cream and plant-based milk. For a natural green color, blend in a handful of spinach instead of food coloring. Chill glasses before serving for a thicker shake. Adjust consistency by adding more milk or ice cream as needed. Best enjoyed immediately; leftovers can be frozen and re-blended.
